She Hoops extends partnership with Kulbardi and the Bibbulmun Fund

The Indigenous Leadership Program has become a cornerstone of the She Hoops mission to deliver inclusive and culturally safe development experiences.

She Hoops is proud to announce the renewal of its partnership with Indigenous-owned organisations Kulbardi and the Bibbulmun Fund, marking the second year of a transformative collaboration aimed at empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls through basketball.

Launched in August 2024, the Indigenous Leadership Program has become a cornerstone of the She Hoops mission to deliver inclusive and culturally safe development experiences, both on and off the court.

Basketball Australia’s Head of Women, Lauren Jackson AO OLY, said the renewed partnership reflects a continued commitment to nurturing leadership and confidence in young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

“Partnering with Kulbardi allows She Hoops to go beyond the court, creating culturally safe spaces where young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women can grow as leaders, build confidence, and get on court to have some fun.

“With Indigenous mentors leading the program, the girls will be surrounded by inspiration and real-life role models.”

The partnership is strengthened by the leadership of proud Balladong–Whadjuk duo Kim and Sharna Collard, whose cultural knowledge and deep community connection are central to its impact.

Sharna Collard, Chief Executive Officer of the Bibbulmun Fund, plays a key role in shaping the program’s strategic direction. Her father, Kim Collard, is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Kulbardi and also serves as Executive Chairman of the Bibbulmun Fund.

“As Chairman of the Bibbulmun Fund, I’m proud to see our partnership with She Hoops continue to grow,” said Kim Collard.

“The inaugural Indigenous Leadership Program in 2024, led by the incredible Lauren Jackson and Abby Cubillo, laid powerful foundations not just for sport, but for personal and cultural empowerment.

“In 2025, we’re excited to take this to new heights. With this next round of funding, we will support three new programs across Western Australia and expand into two additional states. These programs don’t just teach leadership, they nurture self-worth, strengthen cultural identity, and create lifelong connections.

“What excites me most is watching young Aboriginal women step into their power, surrounded by community, guided by strong role models, and grounded in culture. That’s the legacy we’re building together.”

Now entering its second year, the program will continue to deliver targeted leadership and development workshops for First Nations girls, with a focus on empowerment, connection to culture, and creating pathways through sport.
