Building Future Leaders in Australian Basketball

The She Hoops Leadership & Confidence Scholarship opens pathways for young women aged 15–18 to grow as athletes, coaches, and leaders — shaping the future of women’s basketball.

Designed for girls aged 15 to 18, this 5-month scholarship offers a unique blend of basketball, mentorship, and life skills development.

Through this holistic approach, participants not only excel on the court but also grow into confident leaders both in their personal lives and within their communities.

 She Hoops is committed to fostering diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from girls of all backgrounds and abilities to ensure everyone feels seen, heard, and empowered to lead. 

The She Hoops Leadership & Confidence Scholarship serves as a gateway to various pathways within the Australian basketball community. 

Participants will be upskilled and advance in their basketball journeys by receiving accreditations in coaching and officiating. This exposure to diverse opportunities allows young women to explore their potential within the sport beyond playing. 

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Born 2008 – 2011 (ages 15-18) 
  • Demonstrate interest in basketball beyond playing (e.g. coaching, officiating, administrating)

What’s included in the fully funded scholarship: 

  • Mentoring with professional basketball players, including; Kristy Wallace, Cayla George, Abby Cubillo, Georgia Munro-Cook, Ally Wilson & Zitina Aokuso 
  • 3-day camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra 
  • Community and Club coaching accreditation 
  • Introductory Official Course 
  • Five sessions with EQ Minds 
    1. Mindset & resilience 
    2. Finding focus with mindfulness 
    3. High performance mindset 
    4. Confidence on and off the court 
    5. Leadership – Leading and hooping in the moment 

Round 1 Key Dates: 

  • February 16th – Introduction meeting 
  • February 23rd – First EQ Minds session 
  • March 2nd – First mentoring session 
  • March 16th – Second EQ Minds session 
  • March 23rd – Second mentoring session 
  • April 6th – Third EQ Minds session 
  • April 13th – Third mentoring session 
  • April 27th – Fourth EQ Minds session 
  • May 4th – Fourth mentoring session 
  • May 18th – Fifth EQ Minds session 
  • May 25th – Fifth mentoring session 
  • June 12th-15th - AIS camp 

Note: All EQ Minds sessions and Mentoring sessions will be conducted online at 7pm-8pm AEST/AEDT
