She Hoops is proud to announce the successful recipients of the Leadership and Confidence Scholarship (L&CS) program, marking the beginning of what is the most diverse and inclusive cohort in the program’s history.
With over 100 applications received from across Australia, the selection process was incredibly competitive. The depth, quality, and authenticity of applicants made the decision extremely difficult, and She Hoops is immensely proud of every young person who put themselves forward.
This year’s cohort continues to include participants from regional and remote communities, reinforcing She Hoops’ commitment to creating equitable access to leadership development opportunities, regardless of postcode. With FIBA Oceania’s support, we are also proud to welcome two participants from Oceania - the Solomon Islands and Samoa - further strengthening the diversity and reach of the program.
The program is designed to support young women aged 15–18 to build confidence, leadership capability, and meaningful pathways both within basketball and beyond.
“We are so proud of this cohort,” said She Hoops Lead, Tess Madgen.
“The courage it takes to apply, share your story, and back yourself as a young leader is significant. This group represents the future of our sport - thoughtful, driven, diverse, and committed to making a positive impact in their communities.”
World-Class Mentors Driving the Program
A defining feature of the Leadership and Confidence Scholarship is the opportunity for participants to learn directly from an exceptional group of mentors, leaders who have excelled as athletes, professionals, and role models.
This year’s mentor group includes Ally Wilson, Georgia Munro-Cook, Zitina Aokuso, Kristy Wallace, Abby Cubillo, and Cayla George.
Through honest conversations, shared experiences, and practical leadership guidance, mentors support participants to develop confidence, resilience, and self-belief, while demonstrating what leadership looks like in action.
“Our mentors are such a powerful part of this program,” Madgen said.
“They lead with authenticity, generosity, and purpose, and they help our participants see what’s possible, not just in sport, but in life.”
Holistic Leadership Development
The Leadership and Confidence Scholarship runs over five months and includes structured online learning, mentoring, and personal development sessions, culminating in an immersive camp at the Australian Institute of Sport. Participants also complete coaching and officiating accreditations as part of the program.
A key component of the program is She Hoops’ ongoing partnership with EQ Minds, who deliver specialist education sessions focused on emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and leadership under pressure.
“Partnering with EQ Minds allows us to give participants practical tools to better understand themselves and others,” Madgen said.
“These skills are critical not only in sport, but in life, particularly for young women stepping into leadership spaces.”
She Hoops congratulates all successful scholarship holders and sincerely thanks every applicant for their courage, effort, and belief in themselves. The future of women’s leadership in sport is incredibly bright.
